CHICAGO – University of Chicago's Khia Kurtenbach was picked as a Regional Runner of the Year by the USTFCCCA and was also one of three Maroons who were named Athletes of the Week by the University Athletic Association (UAA).
Kurtenbach captured Midwest Region Women's Athlete of the Year honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The junior won the NCAA Midwest Regional title last weekend with a time of 21:41.3. That performance helped her earn UAA Athlete of the Week as well. She previously finished runner-up at the UAA Championships and has been the top UChicago runner in all five of her races this season. This marks the second time this season that she received the UAA weekly honor.
For the third time this season, Katie Donovan received UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week in women's soccer. The freshman goalkeeper was a steady presence in net for the Maroons in their two NCAA postseason victories last weekend – 6-0 versus Webster University and 2-0 against Augsburg College. In a combined 162 minutes of action, she made six saves with no goals allowed. Donovan's stats this year include a 17-3 record, nine shutouts, a 0.37 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. On Monday, she was voted Second Team All-UAA.
Kyle Peisker put together an impressive collegiate debut over the weekend to earn Athlete of the Week in wrestling. The freshman won the 157-pound title at the Trine University Invitational with a dominant 5-0 record in his bracket. Peisker reached the final with a pin, two technical falls and a major decision. The title match saw him win 18-14. He totaled 67 points in his final four matches of the day.
