UChicago Athletics Preview: Nov. 6-12


No. 23-ranked UChicago (23-8 record) kick off the postseason with a NCAA Division III Championship first-round matchup with No. 14-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University (22-7).

IWU will serve as the host of the eight-team regional from Thursday-Saturday, which features six nationally-ranked teams. UChicago is making its seventh postseason appearance, which included six-straight berths from 2010-15.


Women's Soccer

The No. 3-ranked Maroons (17-1) will host a NCAA Division III Championship Regional on Friday and Saturday on the Stagg Field grass. Their opening opponent is St. Catherine University (9-6-4) on Friday.

UChicago qualified for the postseason for the fifth-straight year and is hosting for the third time during that stretch. In 2016, the Maroons reached the NCAA semifinal.


Men's Soccer

No. 7-ranked UChicago (16-2) will also begin the postseason at home on the Stagg Field turf. The Maroons are hosting a NCAA Division III Championship Regional on Saturday and Sunday evening. They will face off against Lake Forest College (12-6-1) on Saturday.

The Maroons qualified for their fourth-straight postseason after winning the University Athletic Association (UAA) title. UChicago advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 last year.



The Maroons make their season debut at the annual Trine University Invitational on Saturday.

At last year's Trine Invite, three Maroon rookies ended up placing in the top three of their respective weight classes. Kyle Peisker won the 157-pound bracket with a 5-0 record. Kahlan Lee-Lermer took second at 149 pounds and Steve Bonsall was third at 157 pounds.

Cross Country

UChicago makes its push for nationals on Saturday at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Rock Island, Ill. Augustana College is the host school. The men's 8K will commence at 11:00 AM, followed by the women's 6K at Noon.

The 2016 NCAA Midwest Regional saw the Maroon women place third and the men take ninth. Khia Kurtenbach was the individual medalist on the women's side with a winning time of 21:41.22.

The Maroons (5-4 overall, 3-2 MWC) concludes their season on the road Saturday at Lake Forest College (8-1 overall, 4-1 MWC) in a Midwest Conference Championship Week clash. UChicago is the second seed in the MWC North Division while Lake Forest is the second seed in the MWC South Division.

Saturday's matchup features the top two running backs in the conference – UChicago's Chandler Carroll and Lake Forest's Joey Valdivia. The senior duo has combined for 2,751 rushing yards and 38 rushing touchdowns.
