UChicago Athletics Preview: Nov. 27 – Dec. 3

Women's Basketball

UChicago (3-2 record) heads to the western suburbs for a Wednesday night matchup with No. 23-ranked Wheaton College (3-0). The Thunder will be the third College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) team that the Maroons have played so far this year.

Sophomore forward Taylor Lake tallied a career-high 26 points in a double-overtime home victory over Carthage College on Sunday. Sophomore guard Mia Farrell averaged 16.5 points in two contests last week, and she has made 26 of 28 free throws this season – 92.9 percent.


Men's Basketball

The Maroons (2-2 record) will make it a doubleheader on Wednesday evening when they also travel to Wheaton College (3-1). They wrap up the week by hosting Kalamazoo College (0-4) on Saturday afternoon.

After setting a school record with 76 three-pointers last season, senior guard Jake Fenlon already has 25 treys over four games (6.25 per game). As a team, the Maroons are taking 35.5 three-pointers per game, which accounts for 54 percent of their field-goal attempts. Sophomore point guard Jordan Baum posted a career-high nine assists against Lake Forest College on Saturday.


Women's Soccer

No. 4-ranked UChicago (21-1 record) continues its postseason run on Friday morning at the NCAA Final Four in Greensboro, N.C. The Maroons will face No. 1-ranked The College of New Jersey (21-0-1) in the semifinals. In the other semi, No. 3-ranked Hardin-Simmons University (23-0) plays No. 6-ranked Williams College (20-1-1). The national title game will occur at 2:30 PM (ET) on Saturday.

In their 17th NCAA postseason appearance, the Maroons have tallied 27 wins and reached the semifinals five times. UChicago has shut out 17 opponents this year, setting a new single-season school record. The 21 wins are also a new program high.


Men's Soccer

The No. 11-ranked Maroons (19-2-1 record) make their second-ever NCAA semifinal appearance on Friday night in Greensboro, N.C. They take on No. 4-ranked North Park University (20-1-1); on the other side of the bracket, No. 9-ranked Messiah College (22-2) plays No. 19-ranked Brandeis University (17-4). The NCAA Championship will be contested at 7:00 PM (ET) on Saturday night.

UChicago has qualified for eight NCAA Tournaments and return to the Final Four for the first time since 1996. The Maroons have set new school records for wins (19), goals (59) and assists (54) this season. The defense has also tallied 25 shutouts over the last two years. 



UChicago will participate in its third invitational of the season at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on Saturday.

At last year's MSOE Invite, the Maroons took fourth of 12 teams. Steve Bonsall and Nick Ferraro each earned weight class titles at 157 and 174 pounds, respectively. Ferraro tallied a pair of first-period pins and two major decisions by scores of 12-1 and 10-0.
