UChicago Athletics Preview: Jan. 29 – Feb. 4

Women's Basketball

No. 16-ranked UChicago (16-2 record, 7-0 UAA) carries a 14-game winning streak into a University Athletic Association home stand this weekend. The Maroons will host Emory University (10-8, 4-3 UAA) on Friday night and No. 11-ranked University of Rochester (16-2, 6-1 UAA) on Sunday afternoon.

Emory and Rochester make the return visit to Chicago after the Maroons beat both teams on the road last weekend. UChicago followed a 79-61 win over Emory on Friday with a 74-59 defeat of Rochester on Sunday that snapped the Yellowjackets' 11-game win streak. Junior forward Olariche Obi dropped 22 points in both contests and recorded her tenth double-double of the season against Rochester. She was picked as UAA Athlete of the Week on Monday.

Men's Basketball

The Maroons (8-10 record, 4-3 UAA) return to the Ratner Athletics Center for UAA weekend matches versus No. 16-ranked Emory (15-3, 6-1 UAA) on Friday and Rochester (13-5, 4-3 UAA) on Sunday.

UChicago upset Rochester 72-65 in a wire-to-wire win last Sunday. Senior guard Jake Fenlon, a Rochester native, led the Maroons with 24 points. Over his past five games, senior forward Collin Barthel has pulled down 11 rebounds per game. UChicago's defense has limited four of its past six opponents to less than 40 percent shooting from the field.

In its final tune-up before UAAs, No. 23-ranked UChicago (7-3 record) travels to Augustana College (1-10) on Friday night for a dual meet.

At last weekend's 38-team Wheaton College Pete Willson Invitational, sophomores Steve Bonsall and Kahlan Lee-Lermer reached the podium for the second-straight year. Bonsall finished third at 157 pounds and earned UAA Athlete of the Week honors, while Lee-Lermer came in fourth at 165 pounds. The duo is tied for the squad lead with 17 wins this season. In last year's matchup with Augustana, the Maroons earned a narrow 21-18 victory thanks to six-straight wins in the middle weights.
