CHICAGO – The University Athletic Association (UAA) selected three Athletes of the Week from the University of Chicago on Monday.

Nathan Downey's record-setting pole vault earned him UAA Men's Field Athlete of the Week status. The senior shattered the UChicago school record at Saturday's Margaret Bradley Invitational, as he cleared a height of 5.01 meters on his second attempt to win the event. Downey currently ranks fifth in NCAA Division III with that mark. Michael Bennett held the previous indoor pole vault record of 4.95 meters since 2015.

Senior Luke Tsai and first-year Claire Handa were picked as UAA Men's and Women's Tennis Athletes of the Week, respectively. This is Handa's third UAA honor of the season and Tsai's second.

Handa posted a perfect 4-0 record at the top of the lineup in singles and doubles, as she led the No. 9-ranked Maroons to wins of 6-3 over No. 23-ranked DePauw University and 9-0 over Coe College. The first-year did not drop a set in singles wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Also at No. 1 doubles, Handa teamed with sophomore Marjorie Antohi to easily handle their opponents, 8-2 and 8-1. On the season, Handa owns a 14-2 singles record (seven-straight wins) and a 9-2 doubles mark (six-straight wins).

On the men's side, Tsai extended his winning streak to 13-straight matches. The senior led the charge playing at No. 1 singles in a pair of 9-0 shutouts of DePauw and No. 39-ranked Coe over the weekend. Tsai dominated his DePauw opponent 6-1, 6-0 and then took down top 20 nationally-ranked Brady Anderson of Coe, who he beat in straight sets. So far this season, Tsai is 15-2 in singles action.
