CHICAGO – Four University of Chicago players from three different teams earned University Athletic Association (UAA) Athlete of the Week honors on Monday in recognition of their recent performances.
In volleyball, the UAA Setter/Defensive Player of the Week was sophomore setter Emma Griffith. Griffith averaged 45 assists per match and contributed 2.78 digs per set over five matches, including wins over No. 11-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University and No. 19-ranked Carthage College. So far this season, she leads the UAA with 11.26 assists per set and also paces the team in service aces with 26.
Senior midfielder Jenna McKinney was named Offensive Player of the Week in women's soccer after scoring three times in two games, including the tying goal in the Maroons' 1-1 draw against No. 15-ranked Hope College. In six games this season, she has tallied five goals and one assist. Her 11 points is tops on the team.
Men's soccer claimed both offensive and defensive honors after dominant showings in three home games. Senior forward Matthew Koh received offensive accolades for the second-straight week as he scored one goal in each game and tallied an assist against Macalester College – the 27th of his career, tying the program record. Koh leads the UAA with seven goals and 16 points. He has earned at least one point in every game thus far. On the defensive end, sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Katsimpalis recorded three-consecutive shutouts, making a total of nine saves. He has four clean sheets on the year and an undefeated 6-0-1 record.
