CHICAGO – University of Chicago was represented with four selections in three different sports in Monday's University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week release.
Men's tennis duo junior Tyler Raclin and sophomore Jeremy Yuan were Athletes of the Week after clinching the ITA Central Region doubles title. The UChicago tandem went 6-0 on the week at the regional and capped the run by defeating teammates Charlie Pei and Joshua Xu in the final by scores of 6-3, 6-1. Raclin and Yuan now advance to the ITA Cup for the second-straight season, while Raclin has now captured three ITA Regional doubles titles in-a-row.
Aaron Katsimpalis was the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week in men's soccer for the third time this season. The sophomore goalkeeper collected five saves and secured his seventh shutout of the season, as UChicago beat No. 12-ranked Emory University 2-0 on the road. Katsimpalis possesses an 11-0-1 record. In the UAA statistics, he ranks first in saves (47), second in save percentage (.870) and third in goals against average (0.60).
In men's cross country, Gavin Fujimori's career-best effort resulted in UAA Athlete of the Week honors. At the Benedictine University Eagle Invitational, Fujimori finished fifth out of 188 runners in the men's 8K race. The junior's time was 26:04.1 in his highest-ever placing, and the Maroons took second as a team.
