TOP 5: UChicago Ranks Fifth in 2018-19 Learfield Directors Cup Fall Season Standings

CHICAGO – At the conclusion of the fall sports season, the University of Chicago stands ranked in the Top 5 in the latest 2018-19 Division III Learfield Directors' Cup standings, which were released on Thursday.

The Maroons are currently fifth with 288.5 points. A total of 291 schools have scored points so this academic year, which are awarded based on team postseason performances. NCAA Division III membership currently boasts 450 schools.

Five fall sport teams earned points based on their postseason performances – men's soccer (NCAA semifinals), women's volleyball (NCAA Second Round), women's soccer (NCAA First Round), women's cross country (NCAA 11th place) and men's cross country (NCAA 12th place).

UChicago finished second among the four University Athletic Association (UAA) teams ranked in the Directors' Cup top 15, which includes Washington University-St. Louis (4th), Emory University (8th) and University of Rochester (10th). The UAA had the most schools represented in the Top 10 of Division III.

Johns Hopkins University resides atop the standings with 475 points.

The Learfield Directors' Cup is a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. The points system is based on each institution's postseason finish in up to 18 sports (nine women's and nine men's).
