Peisker and Schmitz Gain UAA Athlete of the Week Status

CHICAGO – University of Chicago's Kyle Peisker and Cole Schmitz were picked as University Athletic Association (UAA) Athletes of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Peisker was the UAA Wrestler of the Week following his 174-pound title at Elmhurst College's Al Hanke Invitational. The Saturday tournament saw Peisker go 5-0 to improve his season record to 22-3. The junior tallied one pin and one technical fall before winning the final by major decision (13-5). He is currently ranked eighth nationally at 174 pounds by d3wrestle.com.

Schmitz garnered UAA Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week honors after a successful weekend home stand. The Maroons beat No. 12-ranked University of Rochester 85-80 and Emory University 96-86 in overtime. In the two wins, he averaged 19.5 points per game on 64 percent shooting from the field. Schmitz made 7 of 8 field goals against Rochester on Friday, then posted his first career double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds versus Emory on Sunday. The 23 points were also a career high.
