CHICAGO – All-American performances by University of Chicago's Isabel Maletich and Kyle Peisker were recognized with Athlete of the Week honors from the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Monday.
Maletich's historic performance at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships secured her a UAA Athlete of the Week accolade. The first-year leapt 5.91 meters in the women's long jump to win the NCAA national title. It marked the 10th NCAA individual championship in UChicago track & field history and the first ever by a Maroon rookie. Maletich bested her season-best mark by more than 11 inches. She also finished sixth in the triple jump at 11.77 meters to add to her All-American haul.
Peisker was named the UAA Wrestler of the Week for the third time this season. The junior finished fifth at 184 pounds at the NCAA Division III Championships over the weekend. He posted a 4-2 record with wins over the No. 1 and No. 7 seeds in his weight class. Peisker concluded the year with a team-best 36-7 record that included five pins and four technical falls.
