CHICAGO – Three University of Chicago student-athletes in three different sports earned recognition as Athletes of the Week from the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Monday afternoon.
For the second time this season, UChicago volleyball's Emma Griffith received Athlete of the Week status. The junior setter helped lead the No. 13-ranked Maroons to a trio of 3-0 sweeps at the Illinois Wesleyan University Classic. The defeated opponents included Otterbein University, Hendrix College and Millikin University. Griffith tallied 11.11 assists per set and 3.22 digs per set, earning All-Tournament Team honors in the process.
In women's cross country, Claire Brockway picked up her first conference weekly honor. The Maroon senior placed fifth overall in the women's 5K race at University of Wisconsin-Parkside. In the field of 119 runners, she crossed the line in 18:35.4. UChicago placed second out of seven teams at last Friday's meet.
First-year Kameron Bloye earned UAA Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week as well. The rookie forward provided the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute of Saturday's 3-1 victory over No. 21-ranked North Park University. It also marked UChicago's first win after starting the season with a pair of ties.
