UAA and MWC Recognize Maroons as Athletes of the Week

CHICAGO – University of Chicago's Nicholas D'Ambrose and Vicente Mateus received weekly top athlete accolades from the Midwest Conference and University Athletic Association on Monday.

D'Ambrose was picked as Football Offensive Athlete of the Week by both the MWC and UAA. The sophomore running back posted his second-best game of his career with 143 rushing yards while averaging 10.2 yards per carry at Simpson College on Saturday. His two scoring runs traversed three yards and 66 yards. Through two games, he is averaging 7.6 yards per carry.

Mateus was the UAA's Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week. The No. 7-ranked Maroons went 1-0-1 on the week, rallying past Hope College 3-2 in double overtime and tying Rowan University 1-1. At Hope, Mateus scored a long-distance free kick just before halftime, then later passed to an open Ben Brandt for the game-winner. The sophomore midfielder also tallied an assist on Richard Gillespie's header goal versus Rowan. In four games played, he leads the team with two goals and two assists this season.
