UChicago Athletics Preview: September 23-29

Women's Soccer

No. 20-ranked UChicago (5-1 record) hosts traditional rival No. 5-ranked Wheaton College (7-1) on Tuesday, then hit the road for a Saturday afternoon game at Calvin University (2-5-1).

Through six games, senior forward Adrianna Vera leads the team with six goals, which already ties her career high for a season. Vera (.316) and junior forward Katie Jasminski (.333) are both shooting over 30 percent. Defensively, UChicago has only allowed 14 shots on goal and four goals on the year.

Men's Soccer

The No. 6-ranked Maroons (3-0-4 record) concludes its road trip at No. 11-ranked Calvin (8-1) on Wednesday. They return home on Friday night for a matchup against Kalamazoo College (6-1-1).

Junior goalkeeper Aaron Katsimpalis was picked as University Athletic Association (UAA) Defensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season. He made a combined 16 saves in two games last week, tying his career high with nine saves at Wheaton College. UChicago's 10 goals have been scored by eight-different players.

UChicago (0-2 record) takes on its first Midwest Conference opponent of the year when Lake Forest College (2-0) comes to Stagg Field on Saturday afternoon.

The No. 6-ranked Maroons (13-1 record) has a light week with one Saturday match against Aurora University (9-6).

UChicago stretched its winning streak to 12 matches, which included a 3-1 victory over previously undefeated and No. 1-ranked Calvin College last Wednesday. Nine Maroon wins in that time have been 3-0 sweeps. Junior setter Emma Griffith and senior outside hitter Anne Marie Stifter were both selected as UAA Athletes of the Week on Monday. UChicago's defense ranks fifth nationally with 20.1 digs per set.
