CHICAGO – The University of Chicago was represented in three sports in the University Athletic Association's Athlete of the Week release on Monday afternoon.
In women's cross country, Sophie Elgamal picked up Athlete of the Week status thanks to her medalist honors at the Benedictine Invitational. The junior posted the best 6K time in the field of 94 runners, crossing the line in 22:18. The Maroons won their third-straight team title and fourth overall this year, with six runners finishing in the top 10.
Sahil Modi earned his first career Men's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week. The No. 6-ranked Maroons defeated University of Rochester 2-0 on the road, with Modi providing the game-winning goal in the 31st minute. Through 11 games, the sophomore midfielder has tallied two goals and one assist.
The Women's Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week was Claudia Hodgetts. The junior midfielder scored two goals on the week, with one in each game in a 2-0 win over Carthage College and a 1-1 tie with No. 19-ranked Rochester. It marked her first career UAA weekly honor.
