UChicago Collects Six UAA Athlete of the Week Honors

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago accounted for six Athlete of the Week selections from the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Monday.

Ryan Cutter headlined the recipients following his come-from-behind victory at the UAA Championships over the weekend. The UAA Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week made his move in the final 40 meters and earned the title by only 0.31 seconds over the runner-up. Cutter finished the 8K race in a time of 24:50.23. The junior became the first UChicago men's medalist at UAAs since Tom Haxton in 2003.

On the gridiron, Jackson Ross was picked as the UAA Defensive Athlete of the Week in football. The junior defensive tackle collected a career-high 18 tackles in a 21-20 overtime loss to Monmouth College on Saturday. Ross kept his team close by blocking a pair of field goals from 45 and 46 yards out. He currently leads the Maroons with 71 tackles on the season.

Following their dominating dual-meet victory over Carthage College, the UChicago swimming and diving teams swept all four UAA weekly awards. First-year Andrew Chen and senior Agnes Lo were the Men's and Women's Divers of the Week, respectively. Chen claimed the one-meter board (261.90) and three-meter board (266.40). Lo won the one-meter dive with a score of 266.49 and took second in the three-meter dive with a score of 233.93.

Yunfan Dong was the Women's Swimmer of the Week. The Maroon rookies was victorious in both backstroke events, winning the 100-yard in 58.38 and the 200-yard in 2:08.23. Junior Keda Song received Men's Swimmer of the Week accolades as well. He finished first in both the 200-yard IM (1:55.07) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:07.17).
