CHICAGO – The University of Chicago received a combined three Athlete of the Week honors from the University Athletic Association (UAA) and Midwest Conference (MWC) on Monday.
The MWC Baseball Position Performer of the Week went to UChicago's Carson Weekley. The sophomore third baseman led the Maroons to a 3-0 record over the opening weekend of the season – the Maroons defeated Loras College 5-1 and swept a doubleheader from Illinois Wesleyan University 14-5 and 11-4. In those games, Weekley hit for a .571 batting average with two home runs, eight RBI and two doubles to lead the squad.
Elizabeth Cron was named the UAA Athlete of the Week in women's diving for the third time this season. The Maroon sophomore earned a pair of titles at the NCAA Diving Regional hosted by Denison University. Cron finished first in both the one-meter dive (458.25) and three-meter dive (457.10). She also qualified for the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships on March 18-21.
Brennan McDaniel's big game in the season finale was recognized with the weekly UAA recognition in men's basketball. The junior forward led the Maroons to a 77-70 upset win over No. 13-ranked rival Washington University – St. Louis on Saturday. McDaniel tallied 23 points on 64 percent shooting from the field. He went 5-for-5 from three-point range as UChicago rallied from a double-digit deficit in the second half.
