CHICAGO – The University of Chicago Department of Athletics & Recreation is pleased to announce the creation of the Dan Tepke Memorial Fund for Football.
The endowment was established by a generous group gift from football alumni, family and friends in memory of Dan Tepke. The fund will serve as a permanent source of ongoing support for the football program and its priorities. It became the school's first athletics endowment fund to allocate support directly to a specific team.
"We are grateful for the opportunity to honor Coach Dan Tepke and his contributions to our football family," said UChicago Head Coach Chris Wilkerson. "Our mission at The University of Chicago is to impact and enrich lives. Coach Tepke was committed to our philosophy of teaching how to work collaboratively to reach performance goals, how to embrace diversity of thought and culture, how to persevere through failure with resiliency and how to compete with integrity. Coach Tepke impacted and touched hundreds of lives during his time in Hyde Park. This gift will continue to be transformational and support many more members of our football family for years to come. We believe this endowment will serve as a catalyst for the support of our student-athletes in perpetuity."
Tepke earned his Master of Business Administration degree from UChicago in 1982, and served the University in multiple capacities over the years. In the athletic realm, he was an assistant coach for the Maroon football team. Tepke's distinguished career also included roles as the Associate Dean for Management and Budget at the School of Business, as well as a lecturer in marketing and Director of the New Product and Strategy Development Laboratory.
A dear friend, mentor and colleague to many in the University community, Tepke passed away in December 2019.
