Behar House Captures 2018-19 Maroon Cup

Behar House Captures 2018-19 Maroon Cup

On the heels of a historic year of intramural participation, Behar House has been crowned 2018-19 Maroon Cup champions!

The Maroon Cup is awarded annually to the undergraduate house earning the most points in sanctioned intramural activities throughout the academic year (by way of participation and place).

In one of the most closely contested competitions in program history, Behar just edged out two-time defending champions, Strongin House, by the narrowest of margins (60 points).  Behar sat in second place in the standings after both the fall and winter quarters; however, a strong spring buoyed them to the top spot when it mattered most.

After a second-place finish in 2017-18 in which Behar earned 2,710 points, the house was determined to take a big step forward this year. And that they did, earning 4,434 points in 2018-19 with participation in 30 of the 32 intramural sports offered over the course of the year. Led by their senior IM Reps, Kedrick Shin and Serena Smith, Behar’s efforts were highlighted with team and individual championships in Coed Wallyball, Coed & Men’s Ultimate Frisbee, Coed and Men’s Floor Hockey, Euchre, Foosball and Tennis.

Strongin House is deserving of recognition as well as the two houses pushed each other throughout the year, through friendly competition, to earn two of the highest point totals the Maroon Cup has ever seen. Strongin also outperformed their point total from the previous year, earning 4,374 points while participating in almost every sport offered and earning numerous championships.

Rounding out the top-five finishers were Yuen House (1,915), Breckinridge House (1,570) and Keller House (1,225).  The top 15 finishers are listed below.

The Intramural office would like to thank all the house teams that participated this year and the IM reps whose hard work in organizing their teams did not go unnoticed. All 30 residence houses were represented in intramurals this year.
