BURR RIDGE, Ill. – The University of Chicago women's tennis team lost to DePauw University 6-3 on Saturday. The No. 9-ranked Maroons dropped to 5-3 while the No. 12-ranked Tigers improved to 7-2.
Before the start of the matches, the UChicago men's and women's tennis squads held a free clinic for adults and kids. A total of 178 fans were in attendance.
Junior Megan Tang and sophomore Helen Sdvizhkov teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match 8-4. However, DePauw took the other two doubles spots and four of the six singles spots to get the team victory. Tang also won at No. 1 singles and freshman Tiffany Chen was victorious at No. 3 singles.
"Tonight's match was a tough one for us," Head Coach Jay Tee said. "We were without, pound for pound, one of our best players in Sruthi Ramaswami, so we knew it would be a tough task. We definitely miss Sruthi's leadership and the confidence she gives us. That said, it was still a match I thought we could have won. We will need to use these next two weeks to get healthy and to improve because the schedule does us no favors with three-consecutive matches with teams ranked in the top five."
