UChicago Women's Lacrosse Triumphs in Overtime Against Colorado College

Box Score

CHICAGOLulu Hardy's overtime goal capped a thrilling 14-13 win for the University of Chicago women's lacrosse team over Colorado College on Saturday afternoon.

The No. 16-ranked Maroons improved to 8-2. The Tigers dropped to 7-7.

Saturday's matchup on the Stagg Field turf was a tight one all the way through. Colorado brought pressure with a full ride on clearance attempts and were willing to throw hard shots at the net from all angles. UChicago was able to get numerous goals thanks to great individual efforts driving through multiple defenders in front.

After the Tigers took a 3-2 lead in the second quarter, the Maroons found their rhythm and countered with four goals in-a-row to go up 6-3. Camille Kuwana contritbued two goals during that span. Colorado countered right back with a pair of quick-strike goals in the final 40 seconds of the half to seize momentum back.

Back-to-back scores by Zoe Torok on consecutive possessions put UChicago back ahead at 8-6 early in the third quarter. After Colorado tied things up, it was Hardy's turn to put up a pair of goals spaced a minute apart to make it 10-8.

The action continued to swing back and forth as neither side could claim control over the proceedings. UChicago drew ahead 13-11 late in the fourth quarter, but the Tigers came up clutch once again with a pair of goals in the final minutes. The visitors had a golden opportunity to steal the game away with two free position shots in the final 22 seconds. However, the first attempt hit the crossbar and the second went high.

Overtime loomed, and Colorado grabbed the initial draw control. UChicago's Jill Hooey delivered a key moment by swiping the ball and giving her team possession. On the offensive end, Jane Chen fed a cutting Hardy on the right side and the junior attacker threw a stunning shot into the top shelf of the net while falling to the turf.

It marked the second overtime winner of Hardy's career. She also delivered the golden goal against Bates College on February 26, 2022.

Colorado held sway in shots (36-30), draw controls (17-14) and ground balls (21-18). UChicago committed fewer turnovers (14-18).

Hardy recorded six goals for the second-straight game. Kuwana also delivered on the offensive end with four goals and one assist. Torok tallied three goals.

Hooey grabbed five draw controls and caused two turnovers. Becky Van Kirk posted three caused turnovers, and Kali Konstantinakos added two caused turnovers and two ground balls.

Goalie Rachel Keefe (8-2 record) got the victory in net by making 12 saves with four ground balls in 62 minutes.
