Box Score CHICAGO – The University of Chicago women's lacrosse team utilized another stellar all-around effort to beat Illinois Wesleyan University by a 23-4 score in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Tournament semifinals on Wednesday evening.
The Maroons (15-2 record) extended their win streak to 10-straight games. They will next play Carroll University in the CCIW final on Saturday afternoon. The Titans concluded their season at 7-11
Defense turned into offensive throughout the contest, as UChicago's aggressive full ride in the midfield proved nearly impenetrable. IWU only converted 6 of 21 clear attempts (29 percent) and finished the game with a whopping 30 turnovers. The Maroons took advantage, immediately went the other way with the ball and kept building their lead throughout.
Zoe Torok scored in the first 46 seconds of the game, and the hosts never looked back. By the end of the first quarter, it was 9-1 UChicago with Torok already registering a hat trick. The score stood at 14-2 by halftime.
After a slow start to the third quarter, UChicago poured it on for the final 1.5 quarters with eight unanswered goals. Lulu Hardy scored three times in a seven-minute span of the third quarter en route to game highs of six goals and three assists.
UChicago's big advantage in possession time was demonstrated by the huge shot disparity of 48-5. The home side's aggression was also shown in the 30-8 advantage in ground balls. Draw controls also went to the Maroons by a 17-12 margin.
Torok finished with four goals on the evening. Skylar Lienhardt recorded three goals, one assist and two ground balls. Avery Song potted three goals. Katie Large submitted one goal, three assists and five draw controls. Jane Chen put up one goal, two assists and three ground balls.
Lizzie Huesman and Jill Hooey were active in the midfield with three caused turnovers, three draw controls and four ground balls each. Evelina Swigart put up a well-rounded line of two caused turnovers, three ground balls, two draw controls and two assists.
Goalkeepers Rachel Keefe (14-2 record) and Emily Feigen divided up the game by playing 30 minutes each.
