ATLANTA – Traveling to Georgia for their last UAA road conference game, the University of Chicago women's soccer team dropped a tough match to nationally ranked No.23 Emory University. Despite marching a comeback in the last 45 minutes of the game, the Eagles' early lead propelled them over the Maroons.
RESULTS
#23 Emory University - 3
(RV) UChicago – 2
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Eagles opened up the scoring for the heated match after netting two within the first 40 minutes. Scoring both within 10 minutes of the other, Emory led 2-0 all the way until the 73rd minute of the match.
- Both teams tallied six shots in the first half, but Chicago struggled to find the back of the net. Five of the six shots the Maroons took in the first 45 were by different players showing they didn't have a problem finding ways to attack. The persistent offense is what kept UChicago in the game despite being down at the half.
- 73 minutes into the match, Indira Naylor found herself attacking the Eagles head-on. Slamming the ball into the goal, Naylor finally put a score on the board in favor of Chicago. The Maroons now forced a one-score game.
- The Eagles sensed the urgency of Chicago and answered with a goal of their own by Madison Teng. Emory was again up by two on Chicago and the Maroons had to find an answer fast.
- With five minutes left to play Sarah Ginsburg dribbled down the field to find another Maroon. Crossing her eyeline, Ginsburg passed over to Kamiryn Grimes to score her sixth goal of the year and the Maroons second of the match.
- Even with the last goal UChicago was still down by one. The final five minutes played out and the Emory took the match, 3-2. Goalkeeper Sophie Pilarski recorded a season-high five saves.
