(RV) Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Seniors With Big Win

CHICAGO – (RV) University of Chicago lacrosse was looking to put a bow on their regular season home slate when they welcomed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to Stagg Field. The Maroons got off to a hot start before a full team effort brought the victory home via a 21-12 score.

RESULT
(RV) Claremont-Mudd-Scripps – 12
(RV) UChicago – 21

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • (RV) University of Chicago (9-4) knew they had a battle on their hands with (RV) Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (10-5) and immediately tried to set the tone for the game. The Maroons netted the contest's first four goals and held a solid 7-2 lead after 15 minutes of play.
  • It wasn't just the offense in this one that had to be ready, though. UChicago had to play with a next player up mentality after Grace Hopkins unexpectedly came on in relief of starting goalie Rachel Keefe who already had three saves up to that point. Hopkins allowed the first shot that she faced off an Athenas free attempt but settled down after that and recorded seven saves in almost 40 minutes of play.
  • With CMS still within striking distance at 14-7 entering the second half, both phases of the Maroons game hopped into action and scored seven of the next eight goals to enable the running clock. Meanwhile, the defenders never let the Athenas get close by limiting them to just five shots in the third and seven in the fourth as UChicago wins by nine.
CHICAGO COMMENTS
  • The Maroons celebrated their three seniors before the game, and they all found their way onto the scoresheet. Lizzie Huesman had a goal, Lulu Hardy had four goals and one assist, and Camille Kuwana led the trio with five goals and two helpers.
