CHICAGO -- The University of Chicago women's cross country team will look to repeat last year's first-place finish at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by Wartburg University. The Maroons are competing after a hard-fought third-place finish at the UAA Championships.

#10 UCHICAGO WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY NOTES:
* The University of Chicago women's cross country team is coming off a third-place finish at the UAA Championships.

Katja Dunayevich broke the UChicago freshman record with a time of 21:24.4 in her first year at the conference championships. Her time earned her a sixth-place finish and All-UAA First Team honors.
* The Maroons currently sit at #1 in the Midwest Region and #10 in NCAA Division III in the USTFCCCA poll.
* UChicago earned a first-place finish in last year's Midwest Regional. Alum
Evelyn Battleson-Gunkel won the race, as
Nora Holmes,
Estelle Snider, and
Anna Watson claimed top-ten finishes.
* Snider, Dunayevich, and Holmes have each brought home the top times in the opening meets for the Maroons, and Snider and Dunayevich have each earned UAA Athlete of the Week honors for their performances.
* UChicago will look to bring home its fourth consecutive top-three finish in the NCAA Division III Championships after placing 2nd in 2022 and 2024 and 3rd in 2023. The Maroons are still looking for their first-ever National Championship in program history.
* With a win in the regional, the Maroons can earn an automatic berth into the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships on November 23. If the Maroons do not bring home first-place, the team will have to wait to see if they are selected as an at-large participant to the championship.
