AUBURNDALE, Fla. – A tie game was broken open in the eighth inning as the University of Chicago baseball team lost to NCAA Division I opponent Dartmouth College 19-11 on Tuesday.

The Maroons (5-3 record) saw their three-game win streak snapped. The Big Green improved to 7-4.

The opening three innings featured a cavalcade of runs. UChicago scored 10 in that time while Dartmouth managed eight. Junior outfielder Maximiliano Larsen put the first score on the board with a RBI double as the game's second batter. He then reached home plate on sophomore catcher Ian Bohn's groundout.

Five Maroon runs came across in the second inning. Sophomore shortstop Max Brzostowski drove in one on a fielder's choice, which was immediately followed by doubles from sophomore outfielder Connor Hickey and Larsen. Senior first baseman Thomas Prescott brought in the fifth on a single to put his team up 7-2.

Dartmouth quickly answered with five of its own to tie the score at 7-7. Once again, UChicago took the lead back with three runs in the third, with run-scoring singles provided by Hickey, Larsen and Bohn.

After four innings, the Big Green went up 11-10. The Maroons tied the game up in the top of the sixth inning thanks senior designated hitter Nicholas Toomey's sacrifice fly.

Extra frames loomed as a possibility. But then Dartmouth's bats came alive in the bottom of the eighth, scoring eight times on nine hits to put the game out of reach.

The two teams combined for 37 hits, with UChicago accounting for 16. Larsen went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. Hickey hit 4-for-6 out of the top spot with two RBI. Prescott, sophomore third baseman Brady Sarkon and sophomore outfielder Josh Parks each posted two hits.

Six pitchers were featured in the contest for the Maroons. Junior Ricardo Fernandez (0-1 record) took the loss with two innings of relief. He allowed four runs on three hits while striking out three and walking one.
