GALESBURG, Ill. – A sixth-inning rally wasn't enough to hold off a spirited Ripon College team, as the University of Chicago baseball team dropped Friday's Game 2 of the Midwest Conference Tournament, falling to the Red Hawks, 5-4.

The Maroons (24-11) will have a rematch with Cornell College – a team they beat 2-0 in Friday's opener – at 10 a.m. at Monmouth College's Glasgow Field in a MWC elimination game. The winner of that game will take on Ripon at 1 p.m., and will have to defeat the Red Hawks twice to earn the league tournament title and automatic NCAA berth.

Senior Ian Bohn had two RBI against Ripon, including the game's first run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the first to score classmate Connor Hickey (walk). But Ripon (25-16) responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame off Maroons' starter Kyle Petri, who went four innings, striking out four.

The Red Hawks didn't score any more off the first-year, and reliever Chandler Yu kept them off the board for one frame to set up his offense's two-run sixth. Brian Lyle led off the top of the inning with a single and Payton Jancsy followed it with a line-drive double to put runners at first and third with no outs.

Bohn's single earned him his second RBI of the contest, and teammate Benjamin Rosengard added another sacrifice fly RBI to make it 3-2, Maroons. But Ripon was able to get out of the inning with two UChicago runners left on base.

That opened the door for the Red Hawks, who plated two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead at 4-3. A close call at first base allowed another Ripon to score in the seventh to make it a two-run cushion, before Jancsy gave UChicago some life in the eighth.

The junior singled, advanced to second on a balk and later scored on a Carson Weekley single, but that would be the last offensive burst of the game for the Maroons, who went 1-2-3 in the top of the ninth to end the game.

Lyle, Jancsy (double) and Weekley had two hits each for UChicago, who totaled nine hits to Ripon's 10. The Maroons did have two errors in the contest.
