CHICAGO – For the fourth-straight year, the University of Chicago football team was represented on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III football teams. Sophomore Jackson Ross was named a Second Team Academic All-American for the 2018 season, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
An economics major, Ross led the Maroon defense to a pair of new modern-era school records with three shutouts and 118 points allowed (11.8 per game). The defensive tackle paced the team in tackles (104), tackles for loss (10), forced fumbles (3) and blocked kicks (2). He also added 4.5 sacks and one interception. At the conclusion of the 2018 campaign, Ross was picked Third Team All-Region by D3football.com and First Team All-Midwest Conference.
Ross became the seventh Maroon to earn Academic All-America status. It marked the fourth year in-a-row that a UChicago player earned a selection, joining Vincent Beltrano (2015) and Chandler Carroll (2016 and 2017).
Google Cloud Academic All-America nominees must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at their current institution.
