UChicago Football Hands Out 2018 Awards at Annual Banquet

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago football team handed out team awards and celebrated the 2018 season with its annual banquet on Saturday, Jan. 19 at Assembly Hall. More than 200 people attended the dinner, which included a season highlight video, distribution of conference and team accolades, and closing comments from Head Coach Chris Wilkerson.

A total of 39 student-athletes were recognized for their inclusion on the 2017-18 Midwest Conference Academic All-Conference Team last summer. Honorees to the squad must maintain a minimum 3.33 grade point average and is open to first-years, sophomores, juniors and seniors who letter in their respective sports. The Maroons were represented on the list by Trevor Anderson, Zach Atiyeh, Doug Barkauski, Sean Bloks, Will Capitani, Chandler Carroll, Nate Chandler, Daniel Cho, Ben Christensen, Marco Cobian, Brandon Coll, Grant Crum, Erik Dammen-Brower, Kris Dammen-Brower, Michael Hiestand, Henry Imburgia, Mike Kurzydlowski, Nick Low, Reid Martin, Ross Martin, Mike Martinson, Mike McGinley, Caelan Meggs, Ryan Montgomery, Owen Moore, Harrison Paul, Connor Phelan, Roberto Rabines, Troy Reed, Jamie Rieger, Jackson Ross, Bill Rotnicki, Macalaster Schmidt, Will Scolinos, Shelby Spence, Riley Trettel, Vittorio Tricase, Drew Ventrelle and Henry Winebrake.

Two Maroons captured Midwest Conference Athlete of the Week status during the course of the season. Sophomore defensive tackle Jackson Ross earned Defensive Player of the week accolades for his Oct. 27 efforts (17 tackles and three sacks) against Ripon College. Ross was also named the D3Football.com Team of the Week for the same performance. The sophomore was also named the D3Football.com Team of the Week earlier in the fall for his Sept. 22 game (10 tackles, half sack, one interception and one fumble recovery) against Illinois College. First-year quarterback Jeffrey Jackson also received Midwest Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors for his Sept. 22 performance versus Illinois College (22 of 31 passes for 234 yards and four touchdowns).

The 14-member senior class was also honored as a group at the night's conclusion. Over their four years on the gridiron, the seniors won 23 games, which is the third-highest total for a class in the modern era.  Wilkerson wrapped up the evening by thanking the seniors for their hard work and contributions to the program over the past four years.               

The football program would like to thank all of those who supported the banquet and helped make it possible.
