CHICAGO – In Thursday's Midwest Conference football preseason coaches' poll, the University of Chicago was picked to finish second in the MWC South Division.
The 12-team league features six teams in the North Division and six in the South Division. Defending MWC champion St. Norbert College received all 12 first-place votes to lead the North Division (72 points). At the top of the South rankings, Monmouth College (66 points) barely edged out UChicago (65 points). The Maroons received five first-place votes.
In the final week of the regular season, the top finishers in the North and South will face each other for the league title and an automatic bid to the NCAA postseason.
UChicago switched to the South Division after two seasons in the North due to conference realignment. The Maroons posted a 7-3 record in 2018, including a 7-1 mark against MWC opponents. Their 2019 opener is set for September 7 versus rival Washington University – St. Louis.
