Maroons men's basketball loses at Illinois Wesleyan 82-63

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The University of Chicago men's basketball team lost at No. 18-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University by an 82-63 score on Saturday.

The Maroons evened their record at 4-4 while the Titans improved to 6-2.

UChicago made its best offensive run of the game midway through the first half, scoring 14 out of 16 points to take a 24-16 lead. IWU responded with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to tie the score at 24. The Titans led 35-33 at halftime thanks to 18 points in the paint. The Maroons scored 12 points off nine turnovers in the half.

Charlie Hughes tallied eight points off the bench for UChicago while Sam Gage and Alex Pyper added six points each. The Maroons shot 37 percent in the half (10-27) while IWU shot 54 percent (12-22).

The Titans opened up a double-digit lead in the first five minutes of the second half, but the Maroons eventually trimmed the deficit to 66-60 with eight minutes left in the game. The home team then finished the game on a 16-3 run to clinch the win.

IWU led the rebounding totals 41-30. UChicago pulled down 13 offensive boards, including five by Nate Brooks.
