LAKE FOREST, Ill. – A cold shooting night from beyond the arc proved costly for the University of Chicago men's basketball team in a 75-61 loss at the hands of Lake Forest College on Saturday afternoon.

The Maroons dropped to 3-2 on the season and the Foresters moved to 3-0.

Three-pointers were the crucial tipping point in the contest. LFC knocked down 11 of 23 from long range (47.8 percent) while UChicago struggled, making 5 of 27 (18.5 percent).

The visitors were hanging close in the first half, only trailing 27-23. But runs of 7-0 and 10-0 by the Foresters staked them to a 44-30 advantage at the break.

UChicago dominated the boards in the second half by a 29-16 margin. But the extra possessions did not bear fruit as the Maroons shot 1-for-14 from three-point range in the closing 20 minutes. UChicago came within 11 points on several occasions but could draw no closer. Lake Forest's 54-43 lead later ballooned to 74-54 to put the game out of reach.

Junior guard Cole Schmitz was the team's top producer, scoring a career-high 17 points. Senior forward Ryan Jacobsen collected 10 points and eight rebounds.

LFC ended up shooting 46.2 percent from the field while UChicago was limited to 35.8 percent. Rebounds went 46-37 in the visitors' favor. Lake Forest only received one point from its reserves as all five starters scored in double digits.
