Transylvania (5-5 record) is serving as host of the three-team Don Lane Classic, with UChicago (6-3) and Thomas More University participating.

A pair of three-pointers by junior guard Cole Schmitz and one by sophomore forward Dominic Laravie put the visitors ahead 12-7. Transylvania eventually took its first lead of the game 20-19 midway through the period and a 9-2 run by the hosts gave them their biggest margin at 25-21.

A block by senior forward Ryan Jacobsen set up the last shot of the half as senior guard Noah Karras buried a three with six seconds remaining to put UChicago up 41-39 at halftime.

The Maroons made only 7 of 23 three-point attempts in the first half, but dominated the boards handily 26-15. Schmitz posted nine points in the opening 20 minutes, followed closely by Laravie with eight.
