UChicago Men's Basketball's Bryan Joel Named to NABC 30-Under-30 List

CHICAGO – University of Chicago men's basketball Assistant Coach Bryan Joel was named of the Under Armour 30-Under-30 winners from the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), which recognizes 30 of the most outstanding men's college basketball coaches under the age of 30.

In his first season as the Maroons' lead assistant, Joel helped UChicago finish 15-10 overall and 8-6 mark in the University Athletic Association.

"Bryan Joel is an uniquely talented person who has chosen to apply his abilities as a basketball coach," UChicago Head Coach Mike McGrath said of Joel. "The University of Chicago and our basketball team, as well as the profession of coaching, are the lucky recipients of this choice.  Bryan has proven to be a great communicator and leader and his work ethic and commitment are exemplary.  

"He has an very bright future as a coach and will be an influencer for years to come."

After three seasons as a volunteer assistant coach for the program, Joel was promoted to full-time assistant in 2018-19.

Joel graduated from Caltech in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, where he was a two-year captain of the men's varsity basketball team and helped lead the Beavers to their best conference season in 44 years. He finished third all-time in three-point field goal percentage, third all-time in steals and fifth all-time in assists.

Joel earned his master's degree in predictive analytics from Northwestern University in 2017.
