UChicago men's soccer comes back in second half, finishes off Brandeis 2-1 in double overtime

CHICAGO – For the second-straight game, the undefeated University of Chicago men's soccer team found itself facing an early deficit on its home field. The Maroons responded with clutch play and ended Friday night's game versus Brandeis University with a double-overtime goal to win 2-1.

The No. 1-ranked Maroons ran their perfect record to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in the University Athletic Association (UAA). The Judges fell to 5-4-3 and 0-1-2 in the UAA.

The physical contest featured a combined 37 fouls and eight yellow cards, with four for each team. Early on, Brandeis pressed forward in an effort to capture the lead, and the visitors hit pay dirt in the 25th minute by scoring off a deflection. The 1-0 lead held going into halftime.

UChicago finally found the equalizer in the 76th minute. Sophomore forward Max Lopez set up senior forward Brenton Desai for his fifth goal of the season in front. A Lopez header in the final minute of regulation was saved, and the two sides went to overtime.

Early in the first minute of the second overtime, the Maroons struck the fatal blow. Freshman forward Dayo Adeosun found his opening and capitalized on it with a breakaway goal at the 100:42 mark of the match. The game-winner was his sixth score of the season.

UChicago finished with dominant stat advantages of 22-5 in shots and 8-0 in corner kicks. Junior goalkeeper Hill Bonin (13-0) made one save and allowed one goal.
