CHICAGO – Max Lopez earned University Athletic Association MVP accolades and Carter Romero was named the conference's Rookie of the Year as the University of Chicago men's soccer team claimed six All-UAA honors on Thursday.
Lopez has supplied much of the firepower for the conference's top offense this season. The junior forward's 16 goals lead the UAA, which alongside his four assists propels him to the top spot in total points (36). This is his third-consecutive First Team All-UAA selection. He becomes UChicago's second UAA MVP in program history, joining teammate Nicco Capotosto from 2016.
Koh played a key role in the Maroon attack, dishing out nine assists and scoring eight goals of his own – totals that place him second and third in the conference in those categories, respectively. Previously, Koh earned an All-UAA Second Team spot last season and was the conference's Rookie of the Year and First Team pick in 2015.
Capotosto, who anchored the defensive midfield throughout the year, claimed First Team honors for the second-consecutive season. Reimann has been a consistent presence as a starter on the back line, achieving his first career conference accolade. The duo helped lead a defensive unit that tallied eight shutouts this year. The Maroons have limited opponents to 12 goals in 18 games (0.67 per game).
Sophomore Dayo Adeosun and senior Andre Abedian represent UChicago on the All-UAA Second Team. Adeosun's distribution was vital to the Maroons' attack and he paced the UAA with a school-record 12 assists, to go with two goals. He also claimed Second Team honors in 2016. Abedian's contributions in the midfield – including three goals and four assists – earned him his first All-UAA recognition.
Romero became UChicago's eighth Rookie of the Year and third in-a-row. The midfielder/forward ranks fourth in the team with six goals and three assists. He has tallied three game-winning scores on the season, with two coming in back-to-back UAA games at New York University and Brandeis University.
