CHICAGO – Fresh off appearing in the NCAA Final Four, three University of Chicago soccer players were picked as Athletes of the Week by the University Athletic Association (UAA) on Tuesday.
Sophomore Hanna Watkins and senior Kelsey Moore were the UAA Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week, respectively. Watkins scored the game-winning goal in the sixth minute of the NCAA semifinals, which the Maroons won 1-0 over The College of New Jersey. Moore led the defensive effort playing at center back, where she helped limit TCNJ and Williams College to six shots on goal combined over the course of the weekend. The Maroons ended up as the national runner-up and set new school records for wins, goals scored, goals allowed, assists and shutouts.
Stacey Reimann received UAA Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week status. In the NCAA semifinals, the senior led a defensive effort that shut out North Park University and only allowed a mere two shots on goal over the course of 110 minutes. The Maroons outshot the Vikings 20-5 in the match, with a 12-3 edge in corner kicks. The UChicago men broke the school's season records for wins, goals and assists.
