GEORGETOWN, Texas The University of Chicago men's soccer team earned a season-opening win far from home on Friday, coming out 1-0 victors over Southwestern (Texas) University. Senior forward Matthew Koh scored the game's lone goal in the 58th minute with an assist from sophomore midfielder Carter Romero.

Both teams traded shots in the early stages of the game. UChicago nearly conceded in the 10th minute when a Southwestern effort hit the crossbar, but the Maroons quickly responded with their own attacking burst. While Southwestern continued to threaten, as the game passed the half-hour mark UChicago began to build offensive pressure. The half ended in a flurry of shots and corner kicks from the visitors, but the game remained scoreless.

Coming out of the break, the Maroons picked up where they left off and asserted control over matters, culminating in Koh's decisive strike 13 minutes later. Southwestern could only muster three shots in the second half as UChicago pulled away to secure the win.

The Maroons held decisive advantages in shots (21-9) and corner kicks (9-2). Koh contributed nine shots himself, including five on goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Aaron Katsimpalis made four saves to secure his shutout.
