DUBUQUE, Iowa – The University of Chicago men's soccer team proved opportunistic with its chances in the second half, cashing in twice to defeat Loras College 2-1 on Friday night.
The No. 6-ranked Maroons improved to 3-0-4 on the season while the No. 9-ranked Duhawks (6-1-1 record) absorbed their first loss.
Loras had the better chances in the first half, taking the first eight shots of the game. First-year forward Kameron Bloye was responsible for all three UChicago shots in the opening 45 minutes. Ultimately the half drew to a close knotted at 0-0.
After the break, the Maroons did not take long to break through. In the 51st minute, first-year forward Michael Johnson netted his first collegiate goal off an assist by sophomore forward Peyton Lane.
The hosts got onto the scoreboard in the 82nd minute to cut the deficit in half. Loras threatened again in the 88th minute, but junior goalkeeper Aaron Katsimpalis came up with the save.
The final stats saw the Duhawks ahead in shots (18-9) and corner kicks (5-3). Katsimpalis made seven saves with one goal allowed in his 90 minutes of work.
