GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – A two-goal deficit proved to be too much to overcome in Wednesday night's rematch of the 2018 NCAA Division III semifinals as the visiting University of Chicago men's soccer team fell to host Calvin University, 2-1.

The No. 4-ranked Maroons (3-1-4) lost for the first time this season to the hands of the seventh-ranked Knights (9-1), who won for the second-straight time after defeating UChicago in last year's Final Four.

Two first-half goals by Calvin didn't aid matters for the Maroons. The Knights struck first in the 20' when a long pass into the box from Ethan Harvey found teammate Christopher Schau, who headed it into the upper left 90 to put the hosts ahead, 1-0.

Calvin scored again in the 42', as Hunter Olson found an open Jacob Lyon at point blank range, as an offsides flag didn't come for the UChicago defense in a contested call before the half.

UChicago junior Bryce Millington gave the Maroons new life in the 73,' as teammate Isaiah Holquist sent the ball into the box that glanced off the Calvin keeper and found the head of Millington, who quickly put the Maroons within one.

A Calvin red card in the 74' forced Lyon out of the game and gave UChicago a man-up advantage for the final 17 minutes, but the Knights' defense held strong to close out the contest, allowing just two shots on goal.

UChicago ended up out-shooting the Knights, 10-6, but Calvin held the advantage on goal, 4-2.

Corner kicks ended up tied at 3-3 and UChicago's Aaron Katsimpalis finished with two saves in all 90 minutes in goal.
