Why did you choose UChicago?
I wanted to go to an academically rigorous school that would allow me to challenge myself and play the sport I loved at a high level with teammates that were unique and passionate about things outside of sports.

Favorite moment of your UChicago athletic career?
Scoring the game-winning goal against Carnegie Mellon my freshman year and running over to the bench and celebrating with all of my teammates.

Favorite team tradition/activity?
Bucca di Beppo. Enough said.

What made you fall in love with your sport originally?
I think soccer really is a beautiful game. It strikes such a great balance between physical endurance, teamwork, and creative thinking. If you are lacking in any area, you will be punished; but when you get everything right, it is an amazing feeling.

What lessons have you learned through competing in your sport that have stuck with you?
Tenacity. I learned early on that being talented doesn't mean much if you're not willing to fail. You have to be patient and keep working even when it feels hopeless or pointless. Having that attitude turns the process of failure into one of growth.

What advice would you give to your first-year teammates?
Enjoy the little things. You'll remember the big moments, the game winners, the tough losses. But it's easy to forget where you ate on an away trip or what you talked about on a bus ride. Walking away, that's the part I will miss the most because I don't know if I fully appreciated it at the time.

Favorite UChicago class that you learned the most from and why?
Big Data. Great class with a professor who is at the forefront of her field and challenged you to learn both the theoretical and practical aspects of the class.

Which UChicago faculty or staff member made the greatest impact on you and why?
I have to shout out my guy Bobby Smith here. Bobby is our athletic trainer and he's been such an important person and friend in my athletic career. He always managed to make you feel better when you spoke with him, even when dealing with injuries. I will never forget talking with Bobby in a Chick-fil-A after getting eliminated in the Final Four my second year. I was really frustrated and disappointed, and then barely 20 minutes later, I was feeling better. Bobby can always see the bigger picture and is just a really great guy.

Favorite place on campus?
Third floor bookstacks of the Reg.

What are your post-graduation plans?
Work in Data Science.

Outside of your current sport, which sport or activity do you feel like you would excel at the most?
Pinch runner in baseball.

Favorite Chicago restaurant?
Los Comales.

Favorite place you've visited?
Finland.
