CHICAGO – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams kicked off the first day of the Phoenix Fall Classic on Friday night with three victories.
The three-day meet kicked off with three event finals on each side. UChicago took three wins out of the six races. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay (1:36.18) and 400-yard medley relay (3:53.45) were both victorious, featuring seniors Alison Wall and Maya Scheidl in both foursomes. The men's 400-yard relay put up a winning NCAA B-cut time of 3:21.20. The race was highlighted by freshman Byrne Litschgi's school-record time of 49.78 in the 100-yard backstroke leg of the relay.
The 1,650-yard freestyle provided successful results for the UChicago men and women. Freshman Taye Baldinazzo set a school record in the race by finishing in 16:03.42 (second place). Freshman teammate Aaron Guo's third-place showing featured a 1,000-yard freestyle school record thanks to a 9:43.00 split. Senior Cara LoPiano's runner-up time of 17:15.06 was an NCAA B-cut mark.
