Maroon Swimming & Diving Wins Phoenix Fall Classic, Breaks Five School Records on the Weekend

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams concluded its three-day Phoenix Fall Classic by finishing atop the men's and women's standings on Sunday.

The Maroon men won the 12-team meet with 1,097 points. DePauw University was runner-up with 642 points. UChicago's women were even more dominant in their 13-team field as their 1,171 points easily outpaced second-place DePauw (383 points).

UChicago's weekend accomplishments included 31 NCAA B-cut marks, five new school records and two new pool records. The hosts finished off Sunday's action with 12 more event wins – eight on the women's side and four on the men's side.

Sunday's action saw the Maroons achieve 12 more NCAA B-cuts. First-year Margaret Wolfson led the charge by winning the women's 200-yard breaststroke in a school-record time of 2:17.99. Sophomore Taye Baldinazzo topped the men's 200-yard freestyle with a pool-record of 1:39.07.

The men's 200-yard breaststroke was chock full of big performances. A trio of Maroons achieved NCAA B-cuts in the event – sophomore Lance Culjat (2:02.10), sophomore Reona Yamaguchi (2:02.37) and first-year Alexander Qu (2:02.47). Similarly, the 100-yard butterfly had three NCAA B-cuts with first-year Hadley Ackerman (56.00) and junior Daria Wick (56.34) in the women's race and junior Michael Todd (49.43) in the men's race.

The other NCAA B-cuts were provided by sophomore Agnes Lo in the women's three-meter dive (493.00 points), first-year Nadia Redza in the women's 400-yard IM (4:28.00), first-year Gillian Gagnard in the 100-yard backstroke prelims (56.28) and the men's 400-yard freestyle relay (3:03.15).
