UChicago Swimming & Diving Celebrates Senior Day, Men Top Wisconsin-Milwaukee

CHICAGO – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams honored their 10 seniors before Saturday afternoon's competition and went on to earn 15 event victories in a dual meet versus University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

The Maroons recognized their senior class on the pool deck before the start of the first races. The seniors included Melissa Bischoff, Natalie DeMuro, Monica Kieff, Emma Madden, Florina Yang, Dean Boures, Alex Lin, Nicholas Reuter, Jack Rodman and Luke Trafton.

UChicago's men clinched their first dual win ever against an NCAA Division I opponent, topping the Panthers 152-134. The Maroon women lost to Wisconsin-Milwaukee 164-109.

The 100-yard IM proved to be a strong event for the hosts. Sophomore Reona Yamaguchi broke the men's pool record with a time of 52.55, and first-year Nadia Redza set a new school record in 1:00.52.

DeMuro led the women's divers with NCAA zones provisional scores on both boards. She won the one-meter dive (258.38) and took third in the three-meter dive (268.65). Junior Anna Girlich also tallied a NCAA provisional qualifying score on the one-meter board, taking runner-up with 257.70 points.

UChicago's men picked up 11 wins on the day. Yamaguchi was a three-time winner in the 100-yard breaststroke (59.17), the 100-yard IM and as part of the 200-yard medley relay (1:35.08). Sophomore Taye Baldinazzo was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle (1:43.48), the 500-yard freestyle (4:43.20) and in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:07.59). Junior Alexander Farrell was first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.49) and as part of the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. First-year Keda Song was also a winner in the 200-yard backstroke (1:53.80) along with the 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Maroon women recorded four victories on the day, including DeMuro's win. Redza swam the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.08), first-year Margaret Wolfson raced in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:24.66) and sophomore Nicole Garcia competed in the 100-yard butterfly (58.78).
