INDIANAPOLIS – A record-breaking performance from Taye Baldinazzo highlighted the University of Chicago swimming and diving effort at the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday.
Baldinazzo came into the meet as the 10th-seeded swimmer in the men's 500-yard freestyle. After a strong performance in prelims, the Maroon sophomore was through to the evening finals. Baldinazzo then secured himself a spot on the podium and All-American status with a third-place finish. His time of 4:25.76 broke the school record.
The women's 200-yard medley relay team also advanced to the final. The relay clinched Honorable Mention All-America status by taking 12th place in a time of 1:44.24. The quartet of swimmers included sophomore Nicole Garcia and first-years Gillian Gagnard, Nicole Lin and Margaret Wolfson.
