INDIANAPOLIS – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams reached the consolation finals in in five different events at day two of the NCAA Division III Championships on Thursday.
Two school records were broken in the evening session. First-year Nadia Redza set a new UChicago mark in the women's 400-yard IM with a time of 4:25.04. She secured 10th place in the event and achieved Honorable Mention All-America status alongside junior teammate Simone Stover, who placed 13th. Stover set a new personal-best time in the race at 4:25.90, which chopped 2.78 seconds off her prelims time.
The women's 400-yard medley relay established a new school record with a time of 3:47.76 – good for 11th place and Honorable Mention All-America honors. First-year Gillian Gagnard posted a best time in her leadoff leg of the 100-yard backstroke (55.81). The relay included Gagnard, first-year Margaret Wolfson, first-year Hadley Ackerman and junior Hannah Eastman.
The 200-yard freestyle relay collected H.M. All-America awards by finishing 15th in a time of 1:35.27. First-year Nicole Lin recorded a best time as the lead leg of the relay (23.76) alongside junior Daria Wick, Eastman and Gagnard.
On the men's side, sophomore Taye Baldinazzo was a H.M. All-American in the 200-yard freestyle. He turned in a time of 1:39.79 to finish 14th overall. First-year Keda Song also provided a best-time highlight in the 100-yard backstroke (50.07) leading off the 400-medley relay in prelims.
