GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Chicago men's relay teams led the way on Day 2 of the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, which saw the Maroons tally 19 total All-American honors across seven events Thursday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Both men's 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams reached the coveted Championship Finals, as each earned full All-American status with fifth and sixth respective finishes. The 200 free team of Jonathan Mendley, Byrne Litschgi, Winston Wang and Alexander Farrell broke the school record with their time of 1:20.78.
Not to be outdone was the 400 medley relay of Litschgi, Reona Yamaguchi, Michael Todd and Farrell, as the squad scored two-straight school records in prelims and finals, finishing the Championship Finals with a time of 3:15.54 for sixth. Litschgi also set new records in his leadoff 100 backstroke.
In the Consolation finals (where all finishers earn All-American Honorable Mention honors as Top 16), the women's 200 free relay team of Nicole Lin, Tyler Mandrell, Daria Wick and Hannah Eastman not only broke the previous school record but won their heat, taking a solid ninth place with a time of 1:34.16.
After two days of competition, the UChicago women stand in seventh place with 87 points and the men are 11th with 68 points.
