CHICAGO – Another day chock-full of impressive performances by the University of Chicago swimming and diving teams kept the hosts close to leader Emory University on day three of the 2020 University Athletic Association (UAA) Championships on Friday.

In the eight-team field, Emory holds a narrow lead over second-place UChicago – 1,162.5 to 1,091 for the women and 1,124.5 to 1,047 for the men.

The Maroons kept up their smashing pace with four new school records while winning four event titles. They also collected one UAA record, one pool record and 24 NCAA B-cuts.

First-year Arthur Kiselnikov provided the biggest highlight after his huge swim in the men's 200-yard freestyle. His UAA title time of 1:36.36 smashed the UAA record by more than two seconds. It was also a pool record, a school record, and only 0.2 seconds away from the NCAA record.

Another UAA championship and school record came courtesy of the men's 200-yard medley relay. The foursome of Winston Chen, Reona Yamaguchi, Byrne Litschgi and Jonathan Mendley won in a NCAA B-cut time of 1:29.01.

Litschgi captured the men's 100-yard backstroke title in a B-cut time of 48.97. A school record was also claimed by first-year Justin Park, who was the second-place finisher in the 400-yard IM in 3:55.72 (B-cut).

The men's 800-yard freestyle relay (Keda Song, Taye Baldinazzo, John Paul Phillps, Kiselnikov) turned in the fastest time in school history at 6:37.34. While the group took second in the race, they bettered the previous UAA and pool records. Both A and B relays achieved NCAA B-cuts.

All-conference finishers included sophomore Martin Baffico in the 100-yard butterfly (48.74) and senior Reona Yamaguchi in the 100-yard breaststroke (55.95). Both marks were B-cuts.

On the women's side, senior Agnes Lo completed her sweep of the diving boards. Lo captured the three-meter dive with a score of 525.90 in the wake of winning the one-meter board on Wednesday. All four women's divers placed in the top five with NCAA B-cut marks – sophomore Elizabeth Cron took third (489.75), sophomore Alice Saparov was fourth (478.10) and first-year Evanna Peng snagged fifth (463.75).

Runner-up finishers with B-cuts included first-year Filippa Kolokotsa in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.52) and junior Gillian Gagnard in the 100-yard backstroke (55.89).

The 800-yard freestyle relay of Morgan Simon, Audrey Mason, Grace Schwieters and Kolokotsa took second place in a B-cut time of 7:32.90.
