CHICAGO – The University of Chicago men's tennis team received a league-high six total selections to the University Athletic Association (UAA) All-Tournament Team on Thursday.
The Maroons are fresh off a dominant showing at the UAA Championship last weekend, in which they captured the first UAA team title in program history. UChicago dispatched opponents New York University 9-0 in the first round, Carnegie Mellon University 8-1 in the semifinals and Emory University 7-2 in the final.
First-year Jeremy Yuan headlined the All-Tournament honorees as the Co-Most Valuable Player. The UChicago rookie went a perfect 6-0 combined between No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles, also receiving recognition at those spots. Yuan provided the clinching point that secured the UAA title versus Emory, as he won in three sets 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. On the season, Yuan sports a team-best 26-7 singles record.
Yuan teamed with sophomore Tyler Raclin at No. 2 doubles to earn All-Tournament status. The duo rolled past three-consecutive opponents with scores of 8-2, 8-6 and 8-2. Their season record now stands at 22-5.
At No. 3 singles, senior Luke Tsai went undefeated with a pair of straight-set victories and an intense 7-6, 6-7, 11-9 win over Emory. He ranks second on the team in singles wins at 24-6.
Junior Charlie Pei was All-Tournament at No. 5 singles. He made quick work of his three opponents in straight sets with dominant wins against NYU (6-1, 6-2) and Emory (6-4, 6-0). Pei's singles record currently stands at 15-5.
Senior Peter Leung came through with his three victories at No. 6 singles. He did not drop a set on the weekend, and his top score was 6-2, 6-2 versus Carnegie Mellon. Leung improved his singles mark to 10-5 on the season.
