UChicago Men’s Tennis Competes at ITA Central Regional Day Two

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University of Chicago men's tennis team completed day two of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Region Championships on Saturday.

UChicago advanced one doubles team to Sunday's semifinals. The No. 3-seed duo of Tyler Raclin and Joshua Xu beat both of their opponents from Principia College and Kenyon College by 8-4 margins.

No. 1-seeds Erik Kerrigan and Ninan Kumar made the quarterfinals 8-1 over Kalamazoo College. But the senior tandem was subsequently upset by Case Western Reserve University 8-4.

In singles play, Xu also made the quarterfinals of the bracket. He opened the day topping Bernardo Neves (Washington University – St. Louis) in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Then in his next bout against No. 2-seed Jake Zalenski (Kenyon), Xu fell in a third-set tiebreaker 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (9-7).

No. 4-seed Kerrigan and No. 8-seed Jeremy Yuan were both defeated in the round of 16.
