NAPERVILLE, Ill. – A day after the women's team placed third at the same meet, the University of Chicago men's track and field team replicated that finish on Saturday at the Chicagoland Indoor Championships.
The host school North Central College won the 20-team meet with 188.5 points. The Cardinals were followed by Lewis University in second place (83 points) and UChicago in third place (58 points).
The Maroons finished in the top four on eight occasions, including runner-up finishes in five events. Junior Michael Bennett was the highest field placer with his height of 4.90 meters in the pole vault. Sophomore Temisan Osowa sprinted a time of 7.07 in the 60 meters, and sophomore Gareth Jones finished the 5,000 meters in 15:13.28.
A pair of relays also finished in second place. The distance medley relay ran a time of 10:26.91 with freshman Mitchell Dennis, junior Ryan Manzuk, sophomore Jeremy Ferguson and senior Renat Zalov. The 4x400-meter relay recorded a mark of 3:23.68 with junior Ben Clark, freshman Obinnaya Wamuo, Manzuk and freshman Nathan Downey.
